Afreximbank Annual Meetings 2025: Honoring Professor Oramah and Africa’s Future
The Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Abuja this June were historic. Not only did they convene leaders from across Africa, the diaspora, and the Caribbean, but they also marked the final year of Professor Benedict Oramah’s tenure as President of Afreximbank.
Professor Oramah’s leadership has been transformative. Under his guidance, the Bank became a champion of intra-African trade, a pioneer in innovative financial instruments, and a voice for African agency on the global stage. Initiatives like the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) and the Intra-African Trade Fair are lasting legacies that will define the AfCFTA era.
As I listened to his farewell address, one message stood out: Africa’s potential is not limited by resources, but by ambition. His tenure is proof that African institutions can be world-class when anchored in vision, discipline, and innovation.
For Crane Philip, Professor Oramah’s journey is both inspiration and challenge. Inspiration, because it shows what is possible when leadership is bold and strategic. Challenge, because it pushes us and Africa more broadly to scale that spirit into every deal, every partnership, and every investment.
The future of Africa is not ahead of us, it is already here. Afreximbank under Oramah has shown the way. Now it is our task to walk it.
